Eye Examinations
This is a very important part of everyone's on going
health screening and should be regular throughout
one's life. Eyesight is often taken for granted and
deterioration can be so gradual that it is not noticed
in its early stages.
Good Eyesight Matters
Good eyesight matters in all of our daily tasks, e.g.
driving, computers, reading, sports, etc. and efficient
sight can make all the difference.
An eye examination will first of all involve some
preliminary checks to establish refraction, eye pressures,
and field test. The optometrist will examine the eye
itself both internally and externally using specialised
instruments. This is important because it can reveal
health problems before symptoms occur, e.g. glaucoma,
hypertension, diabetes, cataracts, etc.
The Optometrist will question you on your general medical
history and your lifestyle needs as well as any problems
you have with your eyes. Without wearing your spectacles
you will be asked to determine your standard of vision
via a calibrated chart. Your best vision will then be
confirmed with a variety of lenses selected by the Optometrist
using a trial frame. Eye muscle balance, reading and
near vision tests are also included. Special tests including
colour vision, VDU, low visual aid (LVA) assessments
and others may be carried out.
